Governing Members

Mr Sere Mady Kaba, is the Chairman of the Africa Re Foundation Council. He is an Independent Consultant and Non-Executive Director in a number of organisations including the African Reinsurance Corporation (South Africa) Limited. Mr Kaba has a Master's degree with distinction in Accounting & Financial Management from the University of Conakry, Guinea. He has served as a member of the Accounting Subcommittee of International Association of Insurance Supervisors (1999 – 2003), the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), and the Institute of Directors in South Africa (M. Inst. D). He is a certified Internal Auditor with the MIS Training Institute London, UK. He has a certificate in Strategic Leadership and Strategic Business Management course of Harvard University, USA.

Mr Kaba is the former Corporate Secretary and; and Director of Risk Management, Compliance and Technical Inspection & ERM/CRO with the African Reinsurance Corporation. He is the former Director of Insurance Supervision, Internal Audit, Property and Logistics, Banking Services with the Central Bank of Guinea.

Dr Benard Ajwang is the Group Director/CEO, Insurance Training and Education Trust – ITET (College of Insurance, Nairobi). He is the immediate past President of the African Insurance Organisation – AIO (2022 - 2023). Dr Ajwang holds a PhD in Strategic Management from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Juja Kenya and a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Nkumba University Business School, Uganda.

Dr Ajwang is a member of the Board of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO); Policy Holders Compensation Fund (PCF), Kenya; and Organisation of Eastern and Southern Africa Insurers (OESAI). He is a former Director of Studies, College of Insurance, Nairobi. He has received a number of awards including the Presidential honour and admission to the prestigious rank of the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) by His Excellency the President of Kenya in 2023. He has many academic publications and many conference presentations to his credit.

Mr Mohamed BELAZIZ is a professional in the insurance and reinsurance industry with 40 years of expertise and experience. He is the former Regional Director, African Reinsurance Corporation (Casablanca Office). Mr Belaziz is a former Central Director with the Ministry of Finance and the General Inspectorate of Finance, Algeria.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics (Management) and a Master's degree in Management and Quantitative Theories from the University of Algiers, Algeria.

Mr Badr has more than 40 years of experience in insurance and reinsurance in the domestic and international markets (Egypt, London, Bahrain and New York).

Mr Badr is the former Chairman, Managing Director of Al-Chark Insurance - Egypt (2004 – 2007); ISKAN Insurance Company, Egypt (2008 – 2021). He was also the Secretary General of the Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers and Reinsurers - FAIR (2011 - 2015).

He has been a speaker in many conferences (domestic and international), and has been a lecturer of post graduate students (Diploma in Insurance), Cairo University. He is also a Co-Examiner for three Doctorate accreditations in Insurance and Reinsurance (Cairo University, Monofia University and Sadat Academy).

Mrs Funmi Omokhodion is the former West Africa Regional Director of the African Reinsurance Corporation. She has over 30 years of experience in the reinsurance industry. She is a Chartered Insurer with the Chartered Insurance Institute of London and Nigeria.

Mrs Omokhodion has a Master's degree in Business Administration from the Enugu State University of Technology, Nigeria and a Bachelor of science degree in English/Linguistics from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. She has a certificate in Management from the Harvard Business School in 2013.

Mr Kenny Curpen is a Director within the Private Client department of Ocorian. He has 16 years of experience in Trust, Foundation, Corporate structuring and administration. He is a former Senior Manager in the trust solutions division of Deutsche Bank (Mauritius) Limited.

Mr Kenny has a Master's degree in Business Finances and Management from the University of Liverpool, UK and a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics with Management from the University of Liverpool, UK. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management and the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners.
