Since our establishment in March 2018, Africa Re Foundation has funded numerous projects and initiatives that align with our mission to develop capacity in risk management and support the insurance industry across African member countries. Browse our funded projects organized by focus area below.

Risk Awareness
Risk awareness and mitigation is one of the priorities of the Africa Re Foundation with major focus on risk awareness for development across the continent.
Industry Development
Africa Re Foundation in its efforts to ensure the growth and development of the African insurance industry, has funded and supported the implementation of a number of projects and initiatives.
Education
Africa Re Foundation supports educational initiatives and training programs to build capacity and develop the next generation of insurance professionals across Africa.
Disaster Recovery and Management
The Africa Re Foundation has supported various stakeholders across the continent during crisis or emergency situations.
Technology Development
Africa Re Foundation supported various projects and initiatives that facilitate the technological advancement of the African insurance industry. Projects including regulatory software, motor insurance applications, and insurance awareness promoting applications have been supported.
Research and Development
Africa Re Foundation has supported the growth and development of the African insurance industry through the funding of projects and initiatives that are geared to policy development and project development, innovation and process enhancement.
Community Development
Africa Re Foundation supported initiatives and projects that facilitate community development, peaceful co-existence and cooperation.
All Inclusive Mass Media Training on Insurance Awareness
The Foundation sponsored this training with the theme: "Transformational Journalism in the Digital Age – Deepening Insurance Awareness through Inclusive Reporting of Events in Nigeria." The two-day physical training program for 250 journalists across Nigeria helped bridge the gap in insurance communication and promote a community of content creators for insurance.
Insurance Awareness Campaign in Cameroon
The Foundation funded insurance awareness campaign in Cameroon, executed in collaboration with ASAC (Association des Sociétés d'Assurances du Cameroun). The implementation of this project helped to improve insurance awareness and penetration in the market.
Insurance Awareness Campaign in DR Congo
The Foundation funded insurance awareness campaign in DR Congo, implemented in collaboration with the insurers association, ASAR RDC. Mass media awareness campaigns including road shows and mobile messaging helped improve the level of insurance awareness in the country and supported market development.
African Insurance Awards (AIA)
The 10th African Insurance Awards ceremony celebrated industry excellence with over 1,200 attendees from the insurance industry worldwide. Award categories include: African Insurance Company of the Year, African CEO of the Year, Insurance Innovation of the Year, and InsurTech of the Year. This recurrent initiative motivates excellent performance and development of the insurance industry in Africa.
Africa CEO Forum 2025
Africa Re Foundation sponsored the 2025 Africa CEO Forum, bringing together 1,000 CEOs and 1,200+ companies with operations in Africa from 75+ countries. Africa Re won the prestigious "PanAfrican Champion" Award. Dr. Corneille Karekezi presented a concept paper: "Unlocking Africa's Growth Potential - the Strategic Role of Insurance and Reinsurance."
Young Insurance Professionals' Programme (YIPP)
Free online training program offering young insurance professionals accelerated career development opportunities. The 7th cohort of 1,000 trainees commenced their e-learning journey on April 14, 2025, scheduled to end February 2026. The comprehensive curriculum comprises 13 technical courses focusing on non-life disciplines, complemented by Leadership and Management courses.
COVID-19 Intervention Across Africa
Africa Re Foundation committed a total of US$3.3 million to the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in Africa. This comprehensive intervention supported various stakeholders across the continent during the crisis, including support to Insurers Associations in Africa and partnership with WHO in Mauritius for emergency response and relief efforts.
Regulatory Software for NAICOM, Nigeria
Africa Re Foundation funded the development of regulatory software for the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Nigeria. This project helped address the challenge of inadequate data, risk assessment, statistical analysis, and knowledge gaps in the Nigerian insurance market, enhancing regulatory oversight and market efficiency.
Digital Motor Vehicle Insurance Certificate System for Zambia
Africa Re Foundation sponsored the development of a digital motor vehicle insurance certificate system by the Insurers Association of Zambia. This innovative project was completed and officially launched in April 2022, modernizing motor insurance processes and improving accessibility for vehicle owners.
Policy Framework for Insurance of Government Assets - Uganda
Africa Re Foundation supported the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) Uganda to develop the Policy Framework for Insurance of Government Assets and Public Properties. This framework helped IRA fulfill its mandate of advising government on adequate insurance protection and security of national assets, promoting the business of insurance and reinsurance in Uganda.
Development of Mortality Tables for Egypt
As part of efforts to develop the African insurance market, Africa Re Foundation funded the development of the first mortality tables for Egypt. These tables were successfully developed and published in October 2023, providing critical actuarial data for life insurance product development and pricing in the Egyptian market.
Partnership with AU Commission - Peace Fund
Africa Re signed a 5-year partnership agreement with the African Union Commission to contribute to the AU Peace Fund. This initiative fosters a peaceful environment conducive to investment and growth in Africa, supports continental stability and institutions, promotes regional cooperation and integration, and contributes to overall development in every sector.
Partnership with UNICEF - Climate Education in Nigeria
Africa Re in partnership with UNICEF is implementing "Climate Education in Nigeria: Empowering Youth through Climate Change Education & Green Skills." The initiative ensures young people are empowered with knowledge and skills to respond to the climate crisis, promotes climate change mitigation and adaptation through education, and provides support in states with high out-of-school rates facing extreme climate risks.
Mobile Clinics for Mammography and Echography in Rwanda
Africa Re Foundation supported the Imbuto Foundation to acquire and install two mobile clinics (UBUZIMA Mobile Clinics) in Rwanda to strengthen the healthcare system. The mobile clinics were successfully procured, assembled, and delivered to Kigali, then officially handed over to Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) during the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Imbuto Foundation.
